Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Official Award Website: www.dofe.org

The DofE is all about going the extra mile – gaining new skills, pushing yourself physically, helping others and having an adventure. At the same time, participants gather friendships, experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.

The award is for anyone aged 14 to 24. Participants can choose the activities that motivate them and go on to their own personal journey by completing 3 sections, Volunteering (making a different to your community), Skill (learning something new or taking your knowledge further) and Physical (promoting a healthy lifestyle). We know from other participants that the DofE helps individuals stand out from the crowd when applying for colleges, university or jobs.

There are three levels of programme you can do, Bronze (Year 9+), Silver (Year 10+) or Gold (age 16+). The main differences between them are the minimum length of time they take to complete, how challenging they are and the minimum age you can start. COG Youth Services is able to provide training and supervision for the Bronze and Silver Awards.

Now we won’t claim or try to be the cheapest AAP out there, nor do we offer ‘quick’ courses, where we try to get your young people through the award in a few days. We do, however, provide high quality, reflective learning opportunities, guidance and support for leaders and participants and a ‘Pick n Mix’ style of DofE expedition support, putting you in control of your money and how you would like to spend it.
